Based on Rovio Entertainment’s successful video game, the Sony Pictures Animation feature, “The Angry Birds Movie 2”, sees the flightless angry birds and scheming green piggies team up in an unlikely alliance to save their respective homes, Bird and Pig Island, from Eagle Island invaders. Featuring a stellar voice cast, the humorous tale is directed by Thurop Van Orman, who turned to EFILM Senior Colorist Natasha Leonnet to ensure visual continuity throughout. Having provided the color finish for 2016’s “The Angry Bird Movie,” Leonnet drew inspiration from that project, maintaining a consistent look and also helping to highlight new complex sets.
“Coloring the interior of the ice mountain in the movie was definitely a highlight for me. I loved the way that the ice interacted with the dramatically different lighting scenarios and how it illuminated the characters," said Leonnet. “It was such an enjoyable experience working with the entire team at Sony Animation on this movie.”
As with all of her projects, animated or otherwise, Leonnet focused on using color correction as a creative tool, keeping continuity in mind. She worked closely with Orman, Producer John Cohen, Production Designer Pete Oswald, and VFX Supervisor Stirling Duguid to help shape a poppy, playful aesthetic in line with the Angry Birds franchise.
