Supernatural horror film “It Chapter Two” reunites the Losers Club for a final showdown with ‘It’ as the murderous entity terrorizes the town of Derry once more. Directed by Andy Muschietti and based on the Stephen King novel “It,” the sequel is set 27 years after the events of 2017’s “It.” Dailies for the feature, which was largely filmed in Toronto, were graded by Deluxe Toronto Colorist Shawn Zacchigna, who worked closely with Cinematographer Checco Varese and final colorist Stephen Nakamura of Company 3 to provide the base look. Nakamura subsequently handled final color grading, working out of EFILM in Hollywood.
Production leveraged Deluxe’s proprietary Synapse Portal to streamline the visual effects workflow, for the VFX vendors, including Method Studios, Atomic Arts, Lola VFX, Rodeo FX, Soho VFX, and Cubica VFX. Through the use of a simple, web-based UI, Synapse Portal helped the effects team automate and accelerate the import and distribution of plate footage while maintaining rich metadata to aid in the cohesive integration of completed VFX shots into the film.
Nakamura, who used Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve color corrector delivered color grades for theatrical distribution versions of the movie both in standard dynamic range and high dynamic range Dolby Cinema format.
